Kale goes to court, seeks stay on Board's ban

PUNE: Abhijit Kale has filed an injunction suit in a district civil court here against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday.

PUNE: Abhijit Kale has filed an injunction suit in a district civil court here against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday.
Speaking to Times News Network, Kale’s lawyer Manoj Wadekar said: “We have stated that the act of suspension is illegal and Kale be permitted to play Ranji Trophy matches immediately.’’
Kale has also made a declaration in the suit.
The case was filed on Monday evening and it is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday once it is allotted to a particular court.
When asked why the MCA was being made a party to the case, Wadekar replied that Kale was served notice by the BCCI through the MCA.
Kale was banned from playing any form of cricket by the Board after two selectors wrote letters accusing him of trying to bribe them for a spot on the national team, just a day before he was represent Maharashtra in the Plate division Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra at Rajkot.
On Sunday, MCA interim committee chairman S.G. alias Balasaheb Thorve had said at a press conference that Kale had been denied justice because he was suspended from playing merely on the basis of some allegations.

Subba to start on Saturday
New Delhi: The cricket board’s Inquiry Commissioner D V Subba Rao will begin his probe on Saturday that will be restricted to player Abhijit Kale and the two national selectors — Kiran More and Pranab Roy who have made the complaint. “I have only received the faxed copies of the relevant papers from the board. The originals have not yet reached me. I will start the probe process from Saturday,� Rao, who is also the Chairman of the Bar Council of India, told reporters.
Asked whether the scope of the bribe inquiry would be broadened in view of the fresh allegations against some former selectors, Rao said “It will be limited to these three persons. The terms of reference have been restricted, so I will not be looking into other issues�. He said it was for the cricket board to decided whether to expand the scope of inquiry considering the new devolopments involving former first class cricketers Vanka Prathap and Pavan Kumar who have alleged that selectors asked bribe for a place in the team.
Rao said all three persons involved in the case would be called to Visakhapatnam for the hearings and notices would be sent to them in the next couple of days.PTI
Show-cause to Vanka
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Monday decided to issue a show-cause notice to former Ranji cricketer Vanka Pratap for his allegations about the corruption at high places during selection process.
“HCA emergency executive meeting has decided to issue a show cause notice on Vanka Pratap to give an explanation within three days on the charges he made against selectors,� HCA President M Ranga Reddy announced on Monday. “The cricketer (Pratap) should explain as to what exactly he means by the allegations levelled on HCA.�
